What are Authority Points?

Authority Points are a measurement of the respect you hold in the community. Each activity you participate in will earn you Auth Points.

So, whats the advantage of having Auth Points? Most importantly, if WCMU becomes a success, Auth Points will be used in monthly competitions where we give away prizes etc! Also Auth points are an indication of voting power. At this current time, every 50 Auth points you have your vote will count as 1 extra person. So for example if you have:

0 Auth Points - Your vote counts as 1 vote
50 Auth Points - 2 votes
100 Auth Points - 3 votes
1000 Auth Points - 21 votes

Now this is powerful because only the most popular posts make it to the front page. To make it to the front page a post must have > X amount of votes with a score > Y (we choose not to disclose these values as they may change relative to the growth of the site).

So if you have enough Auth Points it may even be possible for your vote alone to get a post to the front page.

An overview of the system is below:

1 Authority Point	Voting on content
5 Authority Points (Max. once every 3 hours)	Logging into the site
5 Authority Points	Commenting on content (must receive +3 feedback)
10 Authority Points (Max. 20 in 24 hours)	Referring a video/picture/joke/game to a friend
20 Authority Points	Submitting content
200 Authority Points	Referring a friend to the site

How do referrals work?

Easy, all you have to do is send ur freinds to your ref link. If they become a member within 100 days of their first visit you will get the 200 points. Ref link's are in the form http://www.whatcracksmeup.com/index.php?ref=UserName.

Also if you posted the content you get points when someone votes on that post. If someone gives your post a score of:

1: - 2 Points
2: - 1 Point
3: 0
4: + 2 Points
5: + 5 Points

So hopefully you can see that the key to gaining massive Auth Points is to post quality stuff. 1000 view, 600 give the post a score of 5, you get 3000 Auth Points. The negative points are a deterant from just posting to get the 20 points. If your post is ridiculous it will probably get smashed with votes of 1, potentially destroying your Auth Points.
